Martinwoods Farm is a new training facility in Caledon, Ontario. Located thirty minutes from Woodbine, Martinwoods provides a quiet, relaxed environment for your horse. Over 88 acres of land supports 3 barns, a 27 stall main barn, and two smaller barns, five and six stalls each.

There have been many restorations from a previous stallion operation. The 3/8 mile track has been restored with a new sand footing, and there is new footing in the coverall arena as well.

The main barn now has a Ferno AquaPacer for fitness training and rehabilitation. Whether you want to prepare your horse for early spring racing or rehabilitate after an injury, the underwater treadmill will achieve this in less time than traditional methods.

The high resistance of water is utilized in the workout so the same muscles, ligaments and tendons that are employed in traditional land-based exercise are worked but without the stress and trauma that often follows. The “hydrokinetic” exercise is facilitated by using the horse’s own natural movement on a nonslip, solid surface treadmill. The AquaPacer workout is unparalleled for therapeutic healing and conditioning. These sessions in the AquaPacer can be fully customized to each horse through variable water heights, variable treadmill speeds and variable water temperatures.

Martinwoods has veterinarians Dr. Martyn Potter and Dr. Thea Legaarden available for consultation on a rehabilitation programme specific to your horses needs.

The facility is owned by Kate Martin and Fred Hayes who bring experience and a shared passion and love for horses. Their goal is to provide a first class facility for your horse, whether for fitness conditioning, rehabilitation or a little R&R.

Kate originally operated a seventeen stall facility in Mount Albert. Although this was a show barn, her experience and organizational skills allow for a smooth operation of the new facility, including handling all the daily operation and administration for the farm, including feed programmes, scheduling and stall bookings. Kate also monitors maintenance of the outdoor track and grooming of the paddocks.

Fred had been in the horse business for almost forty years. He specializes in breaking yearlings and dealing with problem horses and being a licenced Millwright, he is hands on with repairs.

In addition, Martinwoods offers daily turnout in lush grassy paddocks, daily grooming, and daily handling. The staff is dedicated to the care of you and your horse. Please phone to schedule a visit to the facility (905-859-8064).
