OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Hall of Famer J. Elliott Burch, who trained Belmont Stakes winners Sword Dancer, Quadrangle, and Arts and Letters, died Saturday at Newport Hospital in Rhode Island of complications from pneumonia. He was 86.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Kid Kate made her 4-year-old debut a winning one Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack, getting up just in time to win the $65,000 Correction Stakes for fillies and mares.

Patiently ridden by Ramon Dominguez through a quarter in 22.59 and a half in 45.52, Kid Kate advanced steadily on the outside to run down favored Meese Rocks in the shadow of the wire and prevail by a neck.

Her final time for the six furlongs was 1:10.30 over Aqueduct’s fast inner track.

Recipient of the 2010 Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey, Dominguez triggered a $41.80 early Daily Double by guiding Gentle Edwin ($7.10) and Crafty N P ($11.60) to front-running victories in the first two races, and completed a $128.50 Pick 3 with a triumph aboard Flat Bold ($5.00) in Race 3.

TORONTO, January 27 - A dozen Canadian horseplayers are part of a field
of 305 contestants competing in this weekend's $1-million Daily Racing
Form/NTRA National Handicapping Challenge (N.H.C.) at the Red Rock
Casino, Resort and Spa in Las Vegas.

With a grand prize of $500,000 on the line, the exclusive tournament,
which is in its 12th year, asks contestants to successfully pick the
winner of as many thoroughbred events as possible at eight designated

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Due to anticipated snow, Aqueduct Racetrack will not have live racing on Thursday, January 27. Aqueduct and the Belmont Café will be open for simulcasting, and NYRA Rewards telebet and internet wagering will both be available as well.

There is no charge for admission or general parking at Aqueduct for either live racing days (usually Wednesdays through Sundays) or simulcast-only days. On simulcast-only days fans will be able to enter the facility through the Clubhouse entrance.

Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Calibrachoa (No. 1a): “We were in a tricky spot stalking a horse that gets out, and Ramon kind of had to wait and see what he was going to do. I thought it was a pretty courageous effort, considering. The horse has now run three really fast races in a row, and anytime you run as fast as he did last time you’re concerned coming back. I don’t think this was as good of a performance as his last, but he was able to dig down and find more.
